Commonwealth LNG has reportedly reached a final investment decision (FID) on its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal under development in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
The project involves building a new LNG liquefaction and export facility on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Financing at the new closing stands at $9.75 billion, with total capital commitments reported to exceed $21.25 billion.
Annual production capacity is 9.5 million tonnes (9.5 MMtpa), with total project cost reported at approximately $13 billion. The final investment decision was reportedly announced in mid-May 2026.
The United States has seen a series of final investment decisions on LNG export terminal projects in recent years, and Commonwealth LNG’s FID is regarded as part of that continuing expansion of U.S. LNG export capacity.
The continued stream of final investment decisions on LNG export terminals is expected to expand global LNG supply capacity going forward, which could in turn affect the procurement leverage of LNG-importing regions such as Asia and Europe. New demand is also expected to continue in the related liquefaction equipment, maritime transport, and terminal construction markets.
Points to watch include the actual construction start date, the selection of EPC contractors, and the status of long-term offtake agreements.
