Nigeria’s NNPC Completes OB3 Gas Pipeline, AKK Pipeline Reaches 95% Progress

Nigeria’s national oil company NNPC has announced 100% completion of construction on the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline, readying it for first gas supply, it is reported. The parallel Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline has reportedly reached 95% progress.

The OB3 pipeline spans 130km with an investment of approximately $700 million, and is reported to have a transport capacity of 2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d). Its completion is expected to enable an additional supply of over 500 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) to Nigeria’s domestic market. The AKK pipeline, with an investment of approximately $2.8 billion, is currently at 95% progress, it is reported.

The OB3 pipeline measures 130km with an investment of approximately $700 million and a transport capacity of 2 bcf/d. The AKK pipeline carries an investment of approximately $2.8 billion at 95% progress. NNPC’s gas master plan targets production of 10 bcf/d by 2027 and 12 bcf/d by 2030, aiming to attract over $60 billion in investment across the energy value chain, it is reported.

The Nigerian government and NNPC are reported to be expanding domestic gas supply infrastructure to meet power and industrial gas demand and support the development of gas-based industries.

The continued completion of domestic gas infrastructure suggests investment attraction for gas pipelines and downstream-linked power and industrial projects across Nigeria and the wider African region could continue.
