QatarEnergy’s North Field West (NFW) LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) project has awarded its EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) contract to a Technip Energies-led consortium, it is reported. The consortium reportedly includes CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company) and GAC, with the contract value said to exceed €1 billion.
The contract covers two 8 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) liquefaction trains, for a combined capacity of 16 million t/y. North Field West is part of QatarEnergy’s broader North Field Expansion program, which aims to raise the country’s total LNG export capacity from roughly 77 million t/y to 142 million t/y. Technip Energies previously executed EPC work on the preceding North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) trains, and the NFW train is reported to build on similar liquefaction process technology and design.
The contract value is reported to exceed €1 billion, covering two 8 MTPA trains (16 million t/y combined). Qatar’s total LNG export capacity is planned to expand from approximately 77 million t/y to 142 million t/y under the North Field Expansion program.
Qatar continues to expand liquefaction capacity based on the North Field gas reservoir in order to maintain its position as the world’s largest LNG exporter, and the NFW train is reported to be an extension of that effort.
With EPCC contracts now awarded for the West train following the East and South trains, continued participation by major EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors, including Technip Energies, in Qatar’s LNG program appears likely to continue. The inclusion of regional firms such as CCC and GAC in the consortium also reflects a broader trend of greater participation by Middle East-based contractors in large LNG projects.
The actual construction start date, the completion and start-up schedule for each train, and the progress of the NFW volume within the overall North Field Expansion target of 142 million t/y warrant further review once confirmed.
