A consortium led by SK Innovation reportedly held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $2.3 billion (roughly KRW 3.17 trillion) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power project in the Quynh Lap area of Nghe An Province, Vietnam. The project is said to be one of the largest foreign-invested energy projects in Vietnam.
The project is being pursued by a consortium of SK Innovation, Vietnam’s state-owned Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), and local firm NASU, which reportedly held a groundbreaking and infrastructure ceremony in the Tan Mai area of Quynh Lap, Nghe An Province, on May 18. The project reportedly consists of a 1,500 MW combined-cycle gas power plant, a 250,000 m³ LNG terminal, and dedicated port facilities. Through this project, SK Group reportedly aims to supply power generated at the plant to a nearby advanced industrial complex, and to bring its “Specialized Energy-Industry Cluster (SEIC)” model — which also encompasses AI data center development — to Vietnam.
