Doosan Enerbility Wins EPC Contract for Oman’s Misfah Gas Combined-Cycle Plant Worth 930 Billion Won

Doosan Enerbility has won an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for the Misfah gas combined-cycle power project in Oman worth approximately 930 billion won, it is reported. This is equivalent to 5.4% of Doosan Enerbility’s consolidated revenue for the previous year.

The project involves building a 1,700MW CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) facility approximately 20km west of Muscat, Oman’s capital, it is reported. Doosan Enerbility has formed a consortium with China’s SEPCO-3 (Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No.3) to carry out the EPC work as a package, while Doosan Enerbility will directly manufacture and supply the steam turbines and generators, it is reported. Doosan Enerbility, as a Korean power equipment manufacturer, is participating in the large-scale Middle East power project both as an equipment supplier and as a member of the EPC consortium. No specific gas turbine model or licensor was disclosed in the original reporting, so technology information is not available.

Oman continues to pursue new large-scale gas combined-cycle plants in response to rising power demand, and the project is drawing attention as a regional cooperation venture jointly backed by investors from Qatar, the UAE, and Oman. For Doosan Enerbility, the direct supply of steam turbines and generators is also seen as another example of Korea’s power equipment industry securing overseas orders, it is reported.

The construction start date, how the consortium with SEPCO-3 will be managed, and whether the April 2029 completion target is achieved are cited as points to watch.
