Finnish green hydrogen and synthetic fuel company P2X Solutions and German renewable liquefied natural gas (LNG) distributor avanca (Alternoil) have reportedly signed a 10-year long-term offtake agreement for e-methane, a synthetic methane produced from green hydrogen.
Under the agreement, avanca will reportedly secure the entire output of P2X Solutions’ 20 megawatt (MW) methanation plant located in Harjavalta, Finland, for 10 years. Methanation is reported to be a process that synthesizes methane by reacting hydrogen with carbon dioxide. avanca is reportedly one of Germany’s largest renewable LNG distribution networks, operating 56 filling stations and more than 120 dispensers. The two companies have also reportedly set a goal of expanding supply volumes to 10 times the 2026 level going forward. The original report only mentions that a green-hydrogen-based power-to-gas
methanation process is applied, without specifying a particular equipment licensor.
The contract value and volume have not been disclosed, it is reported. The Harjavalta plant’s production capacity is 20 MW, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to the report.
Germany is reportedly pursuing policies to adopt renewable LNG and e-methane as decarbonization tools for the medium- and long-haul transport sector, including trucking and shipping, and this agreement is seen as a case of Finnish-produced green synthetic fuel being supplied to the German market in earnest, it is reported.
Whether the first deliveries begin as scheduled in the fourth quarter of 2026, and P2X Solutions’ plans for additional production capacity investment to achieve the tenfold increase in supply volume, are cited as points to watch, it is reported.
