It is reported that the Grudziądz CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) power plant, developed by Poland’s state-owned energy company PKN ORLEN, has achieved first ignition of its gas turbine and synchronization with the national grid, delivering its first electricity to the grid. The plant has an installed capacity of 560MW, reportedly sufficient to supply around one million households, and PKN ORLEN has stated that it is targeting commercial operation within 2026.
The Grudziądz CCGT plant is a project ordered by PKN ORLEN, with the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract reportedly awarded in 2022 to a consortium of Siemens Energy and Metlen Energy & Metals (formerly Mytilineos). The specific model of the gas turbine being installed has not been disclosed, though it is reported to be a Siemens Energy unit. The project is described as one of PKN ORLEN’s flagship power generation projects.
The plant’s installed capacity is 560MW, reportedly enough to supply electricity to approximately one million households. First ignition of the gas turbine and synchronization with the national grid (first electricity delivery) were completed in July 2026, and PKN ORLEN is reportedly targeting commercial operation within 2026.
This first electricity delivery comes roughly four years after the EPC contract was signed, and is reported to be linked to Poland’s strategy of expanding gas-fired generation capacity and replacing aging coal-fired plants. PKN ORLEN reportedly presents this project as one of its core power generation initiatives.
The progression of a large-scale CCGT project from EPC contract award to first grid delivery illustrates broader trends in Europe’s gas turbine supply chain and consortium-based EPC delivery models. Collaborative structures between turbine manufacturers and integrated engineering firms are expected to continue playing a role in the execution of large power generation projects.
Attention is focused on whether the plant meets its targeted commercial operation date within 2026 and on its actual operating performance, as well as on whether additional CCGT projects will be ordered in Poland going forward.
