The Xiaoxita natural gas cogeneration project in Yichang, Hubei province, China, reportedly began full commercial operation on August 25, 2026. The project owner is Jingyi Thermal Power, and the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor is Shanghai Electric Power Construction No. 2 Company, it is reported.
The project consists of two 75MW-class combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units that generate power while also supplying steam to a nearby industrial park under a cogeneration arrangement, it is reported. Construction began in 2022, and the project was designated a key provincial project in Hubei.
The facility comprises two 75MW-class units for a total of 150MW, and as of August 25, 2026, full commercial operation — covering both power generation and steam supply — has reportedly commenced.
China is reportedly pursuing an expansion of gas-fired cogeneration near industrial parks to secure stable power and steam supply while reducing carbon emissions compared with coal-fired power, and this project is regarded as an example of that effort.
The continued commercial start-up of industrial-park-linked gas cogeneration plants is viewed as a case that could improve the stability of regional power and steam supply.
Early operating performance and any follow-up expansion plans are worth watching.
