China has reportedly begun construction on a natural gas pipeline linking Heihe to Daqing in Heilongjiang province.
A groundbreaking ceremony was reportedly held on August 26 in Sunwu County, Heilongjiang province. The pipeline will reportedly span about 570km with a D1422mm diameter, along with three compressor stations and two pig-launcher/receiver stations, it is reported.
The pipeline will reportedly connect Russian-sourced gas from Heihe to Daqing, adding an estimated 10 billion cubic meters per year of transmission capacity once completed.
This project is reportedly being pursued as one of the core oil and gas infrastructure projects under China’s 15th Five-Year Plan.
As China continues to expand its infrastructure for importing Russian gas, this is viewed as a case that could affect the reshaping of Northeast Asia’s gas supply chain.
The completion target date and changes in the volume of Russian gas imports once the pipeline is operational are worth watching.
