Technip Energies has reportedly been awarded the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) contract for the Yan LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) regasification terminal project in Kedah, Malaysia.
The project is reportedly being developed by Gas Malaysia in partnership with Tokyo Gas and VTTI, and consists of an offshore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a subsea pipeline, and onshore receiving facilities. Annual processing capacity is reported at approximately 6 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The project reportedly received development approval from Malaysia’s Energy Commission in March 2026 and has since moved into preparation for a final investment decision (FID).
The project has an annual capacity of approximately 6 Mtpa, and the FEED contract was announced in August 2026, it is reported. The specific contract value has not been disclosed.
The project is viewed as an effort to expand Malaysia’s LNG import infrastructure and improve the stability of its domestic gas supply, it is reported.
The successive advancement of FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit)-based LNG import terminals across Southeast Asian countries is seen as a case illustrating the region’s infrastructure expansion in response to rising gas demand.
The timing of the final investment decision (FID) following FEED completion, and whether actual construction begins, are worth watching.
