Thailand’s PTTGC and SCGC Sign MOU to Explore Olefin Business Joint Venture

Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) and SCG Chemicals (SCGC) reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 29 to explore the possibility of establishing a strategic joint venture (JV) that would combine their olefin and polyolefin businesses. The two companies are reportedly reviewing the integration of related assets in Thailand, including cracker, polyethylene (PE), and polypropylene (PP) production facilities.

The scope of the MOU reportedly covers PTTGC’s olefin and polyolefin assets in Thailand, SCGC’s olefin and polyolefin business unit in Thailand, and SCGC’s related joint-venture equity stakes. The two companies stated that the integration aims to strengthen the resilience of Thailand’s petrochemical supply chain, enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s industrial sector, and leverage existing integrated infrastructure to boost international competitiveness.
