UAE’s national gas company ADNOC Gas has reportedly awarded a total of $8.2 billion in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contracts for Phases 2 and 3 of its Rich Gas Development (RGD) programme. Phase 2, covering a new gas processing train at Habshan, was awarded to China’s Wison Engineering, while Phase 3, covering a new NGL (Natural Gas Liquids) fractionation train at Ruwais, was awarded to Italy’s Tecnimont, part of the Maire group, it is reported.
The newly awarded work is the latest phase of ADNOC Gas’s RGD programme, aimed at processing rich gas (natural gas with high sulfur and NGL content) from domestic fields to supply feedstock for downstream petrochemical operations and gas for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) export. Wison Engineering will build the new gas processing train at Habshan under Phase 2, while Tecnimont will build the new NGL fractionation train at Ruwais under Phase 3, it is reported. The processed gas and NGL are said to be linked as feedstock for downstream projects including Ruwais LNG.
The Phase 2 contract (Habshan gas processing train) is valued at approximately $3.9 billion, and the Phase 3 contract (Ruwais NGL fractionation train) at approximately $4.3 billion, for a combined total of about $8.2 billion. Including the Phase 1 contract awarded in 2025 (approximately $5 billion), the cumulative value of the RGD programme has reportedly reached $13.2 billion.
The UAE is pursuing a gas master plan to expand domestic gas production, reduce reliance on imports, and channel the additional gas toward LNG exports and petrochemical feedstock, it is reported. The RGD programme is regarded as a core piece of infrastructure supporting this national strategy.
The continued expansion of gas processing infrastructure is seen as strengthening feedstock supply security for downstream petrochemical and LNG projects, and this case illustrates the ongoing trend of large-scale gas processing EPC awards in the Middle East.
