ADNOC Gas announced on August 10, 2026 that it has awarded Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for phases 2 and 3 of its Rich Gas Development (RGD) program in Habshan and Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to Wison Engineering and Tecnimont, respectively. The combined value of the two contracts is approximately $8.2 billion, and it is reported that the awards are intended to accelerate the expansion of gas processing and natural gas liquids (NGL) supply infrastructure.
The phase 2 contract, awarded to Wison Engineering, covers construction of a new gas processing train at Habshan, while the phase 3 contract, awarded to Tecnimont, covers a new NGL fractionation train at Ruwais. It is reported that both facilities are designed to process rich gas produced from Abu Dhabi’s onshore gas fields, separating it into sales gas, NGL, and condensate, and that the projects are directly linked to feedstock supply chains for downstream petrochemical and power generation sectors. The specific process technology or licensor involved has not been disclosed.
The phase 2 contract awarded to Wison Engineering is valued at approximately $3.9 billion, while the phase 3 contract awarded to Tecnimont is valued at approximately $4.3 billion, bringing the combined total to about $8.2 billion. Including the phase 1 contract awarded in 2025, valued at approximately $5.0 billion, the cumulative value of contracts awarded under the RGD program is reported to reach approximately $13.2 billion. ADNOC Gas has stated it plans to invest approximately $28 billion by 2030, including the RGD program.
The awards are reported to be part of ADNOC Gas’s strategy to leverage Abu Dhabi’s onshore gas resources to boost gas self-sufficiency and expand NGL and petrochemical feedstock supply. The RGD program is considered a core pillar of ADNOC Gas’s medium- to long-term gas expansion plans.
The awards illustrate that large-scale gas processing infrastructure procurement remains active in the Middle East. The parallel awards to Wison Engineering and Tecnimont confirm that Chinese and Italian EPC contractors continue to build competitiveness in the region’s gas processing plant market. Large gas processing and NGL fractionation facilities typically generate significant orders for high-value equipment such as compressors, heat exchangers, and fractionation columns, which is expected to create opportunities for related equipment suppliers and subcontracted engineering firms. Against the backdrop of national energy companies in the Middle East continuing to award large gas processing projects aimed at boosting gas self-sufficiency and downstream petrochemical linkages, the RGD phase 2 and 3 awards are seen as an extension of that trend. Competition among EPC contractors is expected to continue in future bids for similar gas processing projects.
Attention is focused on whether official groundbreaking and mechanical completion timelines for the RGD phase 2 and 3 projects will be announced going forward. Whether ADNOC Gas will award further contracts beyond RGD under its stated $28 billion investment plan through 2030 is also a point to watch. The extent to which the projects connect with other gas field developments in Abu Dhabi, and how other global EPC contractors that were not selected in this round position themselves for future bids, are also drawing industry attention.
