It is reported that Capstone Energy+ of the United States announced on October 1, 2026 that it had received an order for three gas turbines totaling 2.6 megawatts (MW) to supply prime power to a new natural gas compression facility in Río Negro Province, Argentina. The facility is described as infrastructure supporting LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) export operations to Europe, Asia and other regions. Commissioning is reported to be expected in August 2027.
The customer is reported to be an operator of a natural gas compression facility in Río Negro Province, although the company name is said not to have been disclosed. The equipment consists of two C1000S gas turbines and one C600S gas turbine, and the order is reported to have been placed through the local distributor Turbine Heat and Power (THP).
The site is reported to be a remote area with no existing utility power. The turbines are therefore said to serve as prime power in place of grid electricity. The compression facility is reported to handle natural gas compression for the planned LNG export operations. THP is said to support the supply and installation of the equipment locally in Argentina. The turbines are reported to serve as a stand-alone power source in a remote area without a separate utility connection.
Vince Canino, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Capstone Energy+, is reported to have said that energy certainty becomes essential to keeping critical operations running in remote environments with limited grid access. Sebastián Ochoa Marquinez, Director at THP, is reported to have described the technology as a plug-and-play solution for installation with proven reliability and low maintenance.
The order totals 2.6 MW, comprising two C1000S units and one C600S unit. Commissioning is expected in August 2027. The order value is reported not to have been disclosed. About ten months are said to remain between the October 1, 2026 announcement and commissioning. The turbines are split between two C1000S units and one C600S unit.
The export destinations are described as Europe, Asia and other regions, and the name and capacity of the specific LNG export project are reported not to have been mentioned in the announcement. The order is therefore said to correspond to power equipment for the gas compression stage of the LNG export chain. The combined 2.6 MW of the three turbines is reported to be announced for meeting the on-site power demand of the compression facility.
LNG Prime reported on September 28, 2026 that the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) offered financing of up to 6 billion dollars for an LNG export project led by YPF in Argentina. As gas infrastructure for LNG exports is built out, securing power at remote gas processing and compression sites is cited as a challenge.
Gas compression and processing facilities are often located in remote areas near gas fields, and self-generation fueled by local natural gas is presented as a practical power source at sites without grid electricity. Small gas turbines are reported to be used at such sites because of their simple installation and low maintenance burden. Because a large LNG export project requires not only liquefaction facilities but also upstream compression, gathering and power equipment, orders for such auxiliary equipment are cited as one indicator of project progress. A local supply system through distributors is described as an important factor for installation and after-sales service at remote sites. In regions where LNG export projects are increasing, demand for such small on-site power is cited as growing alongside them.
It is reported that attention will focus on whether commissioning scheduled for August 2027 proceeds as planned. Whether the name, capacity and investment decision timing of the LNG export project linked to the customer are disclosed later is also cited as a point to watch. News on whether similar power equipment orders for gas compression and processing facilities continue in Argentina is likewise said to be of interest. Whether infrastructure orders at project sites move in step with financing discussions for the YPF-led LNG project is also reported to draw industry attention.
