Doosan Enerbility Ships First 380MW-Class Gas Turbine Overseas to SpaceXAI, Bringing US Orders to 12 Units

2026-10-09

  • Doosan Enerbility held a shipping ceremony on October 6, 2026 at its gas turbine assembly plant in Changwon for a 380MW-class DGT6-300H (S2) gas turbine, its first overseas shipment of a gas turbine.
  • The customer is SpaceXAI, the AI unit of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and the turbine will be used in an energy infrastructure project in the United States.
  • About one year passed between the first export contract (October 2025) and this shipment; orders from SpaceXAI total 12 units including this one.
  • Twelve units at 380MW each equal roughly 4.56GW of capacity.
  • About 70 people, including SpaceXAI officials and Doosan employees, attended the ceremony.

Doosan Enerbility announced on October 6, 2026 that it had held a shipping ceremony at its gas turbine assembly plant at its Changwon headquarters in South Gyeongsang Province for a large gas turbine bound for the US AI company SpaceXAI. The unit is an S2 380MW-class DGT6-300H, a model the company developed on its own, and it is reported to be the first time a gas turbine from the company has been shipped to an overseas customer. The turbine is scheduled to be used in an energy infrastructure project that SpaceXAI is building in the United States. The shipment comes roughly one year after the first export contract was signed in October 2025, and it marks the move from order-taking to physical delivery in the US market, which has long been dominated by a few global manufacturers.

The shipped product is the S2 specification of the DGT6-300H, a large gas turbine developed in-house by Doosan Enerbility, with an output of 380MW. A gas turbine generates electricity by burning fuel such as natural gas and using the hot, high-pressure gas to spin a turbine. When combined with a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and a steam turbine, the exhaust heat can be used to produce additional power in a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) configuration, which raises overall efficiency.

The ceremony took place on October 6 at the Changwon gas turbine assembly plant. SpaceXAI officials and about 70 Doosan Enerbility employees and guests attended, and after viewing the shipment and touring the production facilities, participants held a meeting with Doosan management on ways to expand the gas turbine business.

SpaceXAI is the company formed after SpaceX acquired the AI start-up xAI in February 2026 and fully absorbed it in May, at which point the name changed. A SpaceXAI infrastructure job posting has been reported to describe plans for a large combined-cycle power plant that would combine Doosan’s gas turbines, steam turbines and HRSGs to supply power to AI supercomputing infrastructure in the Memphis area. The exact installation site and start-up date for the shipped unit have not been disclosed by Doosan.

Doosan Enerbility said the supply record shows that its product met the technical specifications of a global big tech company, and it plans to use this to widen business opportunities with other big tech firms. Son Seung-woo, head of the Power Service Business Group, was quoted as saying that entering the supply chain of a world-leading AI company proved the technology and quality of Korean gas turbines, and that the company would accelerate its push into the North American and wider global large gas turbine markets.

  • Date and place: October 6, 2026, gas turbine assembly plant, Changwon headquarters
  • Attendance: about 70 people including SpaceXAI officials and Doosan staff
  • Cumulative SpaceXAI orders: 12 units including this one (reported as 2 + 3 + 7), about 4.56GW at 380MW each
  • First contract: October 2025, two 380MW-class units, to be supplied by the end of 2026
  • Additional contracts: three units in December 2025 (one unit in 2027 and two in 2028), and seven units in the first quarter of 2026 (reported to be worth around 1 trillion won, not officially confirmed)
  • Development spending: about 1.1 trillion won invested in gas turbine development since 2013
  • Localization: roughly 90% of the approximately 40,000 components are domestically sourced
  • Market structure: GE, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Siemens are reported to hold more than 90% of the large gas turbine market
  • Order trend: GE Vernova booked 173 gas turbines in 2025, up 54.5% year on year, and Siemens Energy booked 102 in the fourth quarter of 2025 alone

Timeline

  • 2019 — Doosan Enerbility develops its own large gas turbine model, the fifth company in the world to do so
  • October 2025 — Contract with a US big tech company for two 380MW-class units, to be supplied by the end of 2026 (customer not disclosed at the time)
  • December 2025 — Three additional units contracted with the same customer (one in 2027, two in 2028)
  • January 2026 — Elon Musk is reported to have confirmed on social media that xAI bought five Doosan gas turbines
  • First quarter 2026 — Seven more gas turbines contracted for North American data centers
  • October 6, 2026 — Shipping ceremony for the first overseas shipment of a DGT6-300H (S2) at Changwon

Note

The DGT6-300H is a 380MW-class large gas turbine model developed in-house by Doosan Enerbility, and an HRSG is equipment that uses the heat of gas turbine exhaust to generate steam for a steam turbine.
