Gulf Coast Midstream Launches Open Season for Nash Gas Storage Hub in Texas, Up to 57 Bcf

Gulf Coast Midstream Partners has launched an open season for its Nash gas storage hub project in Fort Bend County, Texas, it is reported. The project is designed to use up to five salt caverns with total storage capacity of approximately 57 Bcf (billion cubic feet).

Phase 1 consists of two salt caverns with a storage capacity of 23 Bcf, injection capability of 0.9 Bcf/d, and withdrawal capability of 1.5 Bcf/d, it is reported. The final investment decision (FID) is targeted for April 1, 2027, with commercial operation targeted for April 1, 2030. Upon completion, the hub is expected to connect to more than 15 interstate and intrastate pipelines, including Transco, Tennessee Gas Pipeline, and NGPL.

The overall project is designed to use up to five salt caverns with total storage capacity of approximately 57 Bcf. Phase 1 covers two caverns with 23 Bcf of capacity (0.9 Bcf/d injection, 1.5 Bcf/d withdrawal), and the open season runs through October 23. FID is targeted for April 1, 2027, with commercial operation targeted for April 1, 2030.

The investment is reported to be aimed at expanding storage infrastructure that connects gas produced in the Permian Basin and other areas with LNG export, power generation, and industrial demand along the Gulf Coast.

The continued development of large-scale salt cavern gas storage hubs suggests investment in gas storage and pipeline infrastructure along the U.S. Gulf Coast, along with projects linking to LNG and power demand, could continue to increase.
