Lotte Fine Chemical has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S.-based Amogy for cooperation on ammonia-based clean energy business, it is reported. The agreement was signed on September 9, 2026 at Lotte Fine Chemical’s Seoul business site.
The two companies agreed to cooperate in three areas: building green hydrogen refueling stations, distributed green ammonia power generation, and green ammonia bunkering (marine fuel supply), it is reported. Lotte Fine Chemical previously imported green ammonia in March 2026 and commercialized green ammonia marine fuel bunkering in April. Amogy reportedly holds technology to convert ammonia into high-purity hydrogen and modular power generation systems, and is pursuing commercialization of power systems for data centers and other commercial applications following demonstrations with drones, trucks and vessels.
The MOU was signed on September 9, 2026, covering three cooperation areas: green hydrogen refueling stations, distributed green ammonia power generation, and green ammonia bunkering. Specific investment amounts or facility capacities were not disclosed.
Ammonia is drawing attention as both a hydrogen carrier and a marine fuel, and this agreement is reported to be an attempt to build a clean energy value chain through cooperation between a chemical company with ammonia supply and logistics capabilities and a startup with ammonia cracking technology.
Business models linking distributed power generation and marine fuel supply through ammonia as a hydrogen carrier are spreading, suggesting collaborative structures between chemical companies and hydrogen/ammonia technology startups could continue to increase.
