MT Group Wins Infrastructure Construction Contract for Germany’s Brunsbüttel LNG Terminal

MT Group has reportedly won a Balance of Plant infrastructure construction contract for Germany’s Brunsbüttel LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminal project. The overall EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) for the terminal is being led by a consortium of Cobra IS and Sener, it is reported.

The work awarded to MT Group reportedly covers construction of the terminal’s Balance of Plant infrastructure, including piping and electrical/instrumentation systems. The core process equipment, including the regasification facilities, is being handled under separate contracts, with this award covering the surrounding infrastructure, it is reported.

The terminal’s regasification capacity is reported at approximately 10 billion cubic meters per year (353 Bcf), with completion targeted for 2027.

Germany is reportedly continuing to expand LNG import terminal capacity to reduce its reliance on Russian pipeline gas, and the Brunsbüttel terminal is regarded as a core project in that effort.

This case illustrates the ongoing investment in LNG import infrastructure to strengthen Europe’s energy security.

The status of contract awards for the core regasification equipment, and whether the 2027 completion target is met, are worth watching.
