SABIC Agri-Nutrients, the fertilizer subsidiary of Saudi chemical company SABIC, has reportedly received feedstock allocation approval from the Saudi Ministry of Energy for its 7th production complex in Jubail. The approval is expected to raise SABIC’s annual urea production capacity from approximately 4.8 million tons to 7.4 million tons, an increase of about 54%.
The new complex is planned to produce 1.2 million tons per year of ammonia and 2.6 million tons per year of urea. The original plan, unveiled in July 2024, called for 1.2 million tons of low-carbon blue ammonia and 1.1 million tons of urea and specialty agricultural fertilizers; this has reportedly been revised to a configuration producing 1.2 million tons of conventional ammonia and 2.6 million tons of urea. The original report does not identify a specific process technology licensor, so detailed technical information appears undisclosed.
