China’s SDIC Power (国投电力) has begun commercial operation of Unit 4 (660MW), the final unit of its Qinzhou Power Plant Phase 3 project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, after passing a 168-hour trial run, it is reported. With this unit online, the cumulative commissioned capacity of Qinzhou Power Plant Phase 3 (4x660MW) has reached 1.98 million kW.
The Qinzhou Power Plant Phase 3 project consists of four 660MW coal-fired power units, reportedly built as combined heat and power (cogeneration) facilities applying ultra-low emission standards. Unit 4 passed its 168-hour trial run on August 31, 2026, and met ultra-low emission standards immediately upon entering commercial operation, it is reported.
Unit 4 has an installed capacity of 660MW, with annual designed power generation of approximately 3.3 billion kWh and a heat supply capacity of approximately 800 tonnes per hour, it is reported. With this unit’s commissioning, the cumulative capacity of the entire Qinzhou Power Plant Phase 3 project has reached 1.98 million kW.
The investment is reported to be aimed at expanding ultra-low emission coal-fired cogeneration capacity to provide a stable power and heat supply base for the regional industrial park.
The continued expansion of cogeneration facilities applying ultra-low emission standards, even within coal power generation, suggests the trend toward efficiency improvements and stricter environmental standards for existing thermal power facilities may continue.
