Spanish energy company Moeve (formerly Cepsa) has reportedly signed a contract with Sweden’s Alfa Laval to supply 60 electrolyzer balance-of-plant and cooling heat exchangers for its “Onuba H₂” green hydrogen plant in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva Province, Andalusia. The plant is Phase 1 of the Andalusia Green Hydrogen Valley project.
The Onuba H₂ project produces green hydrogen via electrolysis, and is being developed by Moeve together with partners Masdar and Enalter. Alfa Laval will supply 60 heat exchangers used for electrolyzer and gas cooling; the licensor or manufacturer of the electrolyzer itself has not been separately disclosed.
The plant’s initial electrolyzer capacity is reportedly 300MW (megawatts), designed to allow for further expansion of up to 105MW. Annual green hydrogen production is planned at 45,000 tons. Total investment exceeds €1 billion, and the Final Investment Decision (FID) was reportedly made in March 2026.
This heat exchanger supply contract is reportedly seen as a sign that a large green hydrogen project that has already reached FID is now moving into the stage of actual equipment procurement.
As large green hydrogen projects in Europe continue to sequentially award key equipment supply contracts following FID, the related heat exchanger and electrolyzer component supply market is expected to see more orders.
