Vietnamese conglomerate Xuan Cau Holdings has reportedly broken ground on the Dau Tieng 5 solar power plant in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam. Total investment is VND 77.7 trillion (approximately $296 million), and the project is reportedly one of the early projects in Vietnam to apply the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) model, under which renewable energy generators sell power directly to large power consumers.
The project is being developed by Xuan Cau Holdings’ subsidiary, DT5.1 Energy JSC, with a reported capacity of 450 MW. The plant will be built on semi-submerged land around the Dau Tieng Reservoir, an area previously used mainly for cassava cultivation, with commercial operation targeted for December 2027. Xuan Cau Holdings had previously developed the Dau Tieng 1, 2, and 3 solar complexes (combined 500 MW) in 2018, which were introduced at the time as the largest solar complex in Southeast Asia. Specific EPC contract details, such as the contractor or equipment supplier for the Dau Tieng 5 project, are not specified in the original report and remain unconfirmed.
