China’s Tainenghua to Build RMB 11 Billion Integrated Iron Phosphate and Titanium Dioxide Projects in Gansu and Guizhou

China’s chemical materials company Tainenghua (钛能化学, 002145.SZ, formerly CNNC Titanium Dioxide) has reportedly announced plans to build new production facilities for iron phosphate — a precursor material for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) — and titanium dioxide in Gansu and Guizhou provinces, respectively. The combined investment for the two projects reportedly exceeds RMB 11 billion.

In the Haixin Industrial Park of Yindong, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, wholly-owned subsidiary Gansu Dongfang Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. will reportedly build an iron phosphate (lithium iron phosphate/sodium iron phosphate precursor) project with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons, to be constructed in two phases — Phase 1 (400,000 tons) and Phase 2 (200,000 tons). In the Kaiyang Economic Development Zone of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, subsidiary Guizhou Zhonghe Phosphorus-Chemical Co., Ltd. — 65% owned by Tainenghua and 35% by Guizhou Phosphate Chemical (磷化万润) — will reportedly build a project producing titanium dioxide and ferrous sulfate heptahydrate. Both projects will reportedly apply the company’s proprietary ‘sulfur-phosphorus-titanium-iron-lithium green integrated cycle’ system and doped titanium iron phosphate specialty products; the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor was not specified in the disclosure.

The Gansu iron phosphate project reportedly involves an investment of approximately RMB 5.462 billion, with the 400,000-ton Phase 1 targeted for completion within 18 months of groundbreaking, while the 200,000-ton Phase 2 will depend on market conditions. The Guizhou project, with annual capacity of 400,000 tons of titanium dioxide and 1.4 million tons of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, reportedly involves an investment of approximately RMB 5.538 billion, with a construction period of up to 36 months. Combined, the two projects exceed RMB 11 billion in investment. Both National Business Daily (nbd.com.cn) and Securities Times (stcn.com) reported the same investment amounts and production scale, with Securities Times additionally noting that upon completion, the company’s total iron phosphate production capacity will rise to 700,000 tons per year, placing it among the industry’s top tier.
