Indonesia’s state-owned energy company Pertamina’s Balikpapan refinery upgrade project, RDMP (Refinery Development Master Plan), reportedly held its official completion ceremony on January 12, presided over by President Prabowo Subianto. It marks Indonesia’s first new refining facility completion in 32 years, with total investment reportedly reaching $7.4 billion (approximately IDR 123 trillion).
The project upgrades Pertamina’s refinery in Balikpapan on the island of Kalimantan, Indonesia, reportedly raising processing capacity to as much as 360,000 barrels per day. It reportedly enables production of Euro V-grade clean fuels. Total investment is reportedly approximately $7.4 billion (IDR 123 trillion), with refining capacity of 360,000 barrels per day — about a quarter of Indonesia’s total petroleum product demand. More than 24,000 jobs are reported to have been created during construction and operation.
