Siemens Energy to Supply Six Gas Turbines for Oman’s Misfah and Duqm IPP Power Plants, Combined 2.6GW

Siemens Energy has reportedly won a contract to supply six F-Class gas turbines and six generators to two independent power producer (IPP) combined-cycle power projects in Misfah and Duqm, Oman. The combined generation capacity of the two projects is reportedly about 2.6GW, equivalent to roughly a 20% increase in Oman’s total generation capacity.

The procuring consortium reportedly consists of Etihad Water and Electricity Company, Nebras Power Investment Management, Bahwan Infrastructure Services, and Korea Western Power, with the offtaker reportedly being Oman’s state power procurement agency Nama Power and Water Procurement Company. EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) is reportedly being handled by a consortium of Doosan Enerbility and SEPCO-3. Siemens Energy will supply six SGT5-4000F (F-Class) gas turbines and six SGen5-2000P generators, reportedly including a 20-year long-term service agreement (LTSA). The gas turbines are reportedly introduced as capable of hydrogen co-firing.

The two projects’ combined generation capacity is approximately 2.6GW, expected to supply power to more than 2 million people upon completion. Siemens Energy has not disclosed the contract value. Some secondary media summaries have cited individual allocations of 1,600MW for Misfah and 800MW for Duqm, but these sum to 2,400MW — about a 200MW discrepancy from the combined 2.6GW figure stated in Siemens Energy’s official announcement and cited by Enerdata and GreentechLead — so this article treats the individual project capacities as unconfirmed and reflects only the combined figure.
