Brunei fertilizer producer Brunei Fertilizer Industries (BFI) has reportedly signed a FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) contract with Germany’s thyssenkrupp Uhde for an infrastructure expansion project to build a new cryogenic ammonia storage tank and export terminal. The project is reportedly aimed at expanding export capacity for its existing large-scale ammonia and urea complex.
The project reportedly consists of a new cryogenic ammonia storage tank and associated jetty export facilities, including pipelines and loading arms. thyssenkrupp Uhde is reportedly performing the FEED in collaboration with Uhde India, applying its own uhde® ammonia technology and cryogenic storage and logistics engineering capabilities. However, the specific tank capacity or any additional licensor names were not specified in the original report.
The existing BFI plant reportedly has capacity of 2,200 tons per day of ammonia and 3,900 tons per day each of urea and urea granulation, though the exact storage and export capacity for this expansion has not been disclosed. The contract value is also undisclosed by both parties, and as the project is currently at the FEED stage, construction and completion schedules have reportedly not yet been finalized. Both thyssenkrupp’s official press release and World Fertilizer reported the same project overview and existing plant production figures, cross-confirming the details.
